Context
HEC Paris is convinced that global warming must be kept below 2 degrees Celsius, and that businesses have a major role to play in achieving this goal. It therefore rallied the entire HEC Paris community together—students, professors, administrative staff, alumni, the foundation, companies and other partner organizations—to create an event that marks a turning point in HEC’s commitment to this issue.
HEC Paris has set about raising awareness among its stakeholders about the magnitude of this challenge, and has initiated a substantial discussion—without taboos or biases—regarding the changes that the issues of climate change will enforce in the business world. It is seeking to create a dynamic of widespread mobilization.
“The 2°C Challenge, Climate is our Business” event took place on October 1st 2015. It brought together students, professors, alumni, and HEC partner companies on our campus. After examining the specific topics, such as the impact of mass consumption, energy transition, and the carbon market, with the goal of bringing forward concrete solutions, prestigious speakers presented their vision on the future of business in a world subjected to the constraint of 2°C warming to a thousand-person audience in the HEC Hall of Honor, as well as by live webcast.
“The 2°C Challenge, Climate is our Business” event was initiated by HEC Paris Society & Organizations Center (SnO) by Rodolphe Durand and Bénédicte Faivre-Tavignot. More information on http://www.hec.edu/SnO
